Kitesurfing Trip - Baja California Sur
Why go kitesurfing in Baja California?
In places like La Ventana and Los Barriles, the wind blows constantly, especially from November to March, ensuring good sailing conditions almost every day. These winds are perfect for learning and improving your kitesurfing skills, while enjoying warm, sunny weather almost all year round.
Much more than kitesurfing
After a day on the water, the adventure doesn't end. Baja California Sur offers a wide range of activities for nature lovers, such as whale watching, snorkeling in reefs teeming with marine life, and desert hiking. You can also enjoy the local cuisine and relax in a peaceful and authentic setting.
Paradise beaches
The beaches of Baja California Sur are extensive, with a spectacular contrast between the desert and the ocean. The beaches are wide, with enough space to practice activities such as kitesurfing without crowds, and many of them have relatively calm waters near the shore.
Favorable climate
Baja California Sur offers a warm and sunny environment, which makes spending long hours practicing very pleasant. You won't need to worry too much about the cold, as even in winter, temperatures are mild and you can surf comfortably in thin wetsuits or, on some days, without a wetsuit at all.
Stable winds
Thermal winds, driven by the temperature difference between the desert and the sea, guarantee long days of sailing. Wind speeds vary between 15 and 25 knots, which is ideal for both beginners and experts looking to practice more advanced maneuvers.

Kitesurfing spots in Baja California
Baja California has a selection of kitesurfing spots that cater to different skill levels. Riders can enjoy a safe environment to improve their skills or learn the sport from scratch. There are places that are perfect for learning with flat, shallow water and other spots with moderate waves, both sand and reef.
The Window
This beach is perhaps the most famous for kitesurfing in Baja California Sur. It is located on the Sea of Cortez, about 40 minutes from La Paz. La Ventana offers consistent winds from November to March, with relatively flat waters and a relaxed atmosphere. Its wide strip of sand allows you to move around without crowds, and the conditions are perfect for beginners and intermediate levels. In addition, the kitesurfing community is very active, and you'll find several schools, equipment shops, and places to socialize after surfing.
Los Barriles
Located further south, on the coast of the Sea of Cortez, Los Barriles is another renowned kitesurfing destination. Like La Ventana, it offers consistent winds during the winter and the waters are mostly calm, although there are some waves for those seeking more excitement. Los Barriles is a little quieter in terms of tourism, but it also has excellent schools and services, making it a perfect place to improve your skills without large crowds.

During the winter months, you can watch gray whales migrating in bays such as Magdalena Bay, a unique and exciting experience. In addition, the Sea of Cortez is known for its biodiversity. You can explore coral reefs and swim among tropical fish, manta rays, and whale sharks.
Desert excursions
Exploring the desert in Baja California Sur is a fascinating experience, as the region offers unique arid landscapes where the desert meets the sea, creating a stunning contrast. One of the main attractions of desert excursions is the giant cacti, such as the cardon, which can grow up to 20 meters tall.
