Kite Spots in Brazil
During our kite trip, we'll be riding at some of the most popular spots in northeast Brazil:
Cumbuco
This is the most famous and busiest spot around. It's got a long, wide beach with soft sand and palm trees. The wind here is strong and steady, perfect for kitesurfers of all levels.
The kitesurfing area stretches for several kilometers along a super long line of hotels, so it's really easy to find accommodation right on the beach.
The water can be a bit choppy, and depending on the tide, you'll find areas that are flatter or wavier. Plus, there are some fantastic waves for surfing, especially as you get closer to Cauipe lagoon. That lagoon, though, has super flat water and is a total paradise for freestylers. You might even spot a pro practicing their amazing tricks there!
Taiba
Taiba offers awesome conditions for kitesurfing thanks to its consistent winds, warm waters, and wide sandy beaches.
This spot is famous for its fantastic waves, which can sometimes get over 2 meters high. But don't worry, it also has a great lagoon where beginners can improve, and it's also a paradise for freestylers.
Taiba is a small, still uncrowded village where you can enjoy yourself like a true local.
Paracuru
In Paracuru, you'll kite at a spot called Quebramar, which is just a 5-minute taxi ride from the village. It's a super comfy and safe place. There's a restaurant and a kite center, so you can easily spend the whole day there.
Paracuru offers a variety of sea conditions as the tide changes. At low tide, a small lagoon forms, which is perfect for learning or practicing freestyle. As the tide comes in, you'll find some really fun waves. While it can get a bit busy, if you move a few meters up or down the beach, you'll find yourself all alone – there are miles of beach to explore!
This variety makes it suitable for kitesurfers of all different levels.
A big plus here is the wide range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly guesthouses to super exclusive resorts. Plus, you'll find tons of restaurants, shops, and plenty of services catering to tourists and kitesurfers.
You can't kitesurf on the main beach in Paracuru village because there's no wind. But it's a perfect spot for surfing or paddle surfing instead.
The sunsets from this beach are absolutely incredible, and you can enjoy them with a caipirinha in hand.
Ilha do Guajiru
A huge sandbar separates this popular spot from the ocean, creating a flat-water lagoon that's a freerider's paradise. What's more, the wind here blows super strong for several months each year.
Even though it's flat water, once the tide comes in, you won't be able to stand, so we don't recommend it for total beginners.
You can't kite at low tide, so it's a good idea to check the tide charts to plan your sessions.
At this spot, you'll find a wide range of accommodation and restaurants right by the action.
Jericoacoara
Commonly known as Jeri, it's a fishing village that has become a kitesurfer's paradise. Originally discovered by windsurfers from all over the world, it's still a must-visit spot for those of us chasing the wind.
During peak season, it feels like the wind never stops in this little town in Northeast Brazil, often blowing over 30 knots.
It's a popular tourist spot, attracting both Brazilian and international visitors, but it still keeps its charm with sandy streets and amazing views from its dune and beach. Plus, you'll find a huge variety of guesthouses (pousadas), bars, restaurants, and music venues.
You can't kite right on its main beach because it's sheltered from the wind. Instead, you'll need to grab a buggy to take you to nearby spots or join you on the endless downwinders in the area, like Preá, Guriú, and Tatajuba.
On these downwinders, you'll find small, super fun waves you can surf since the wind is side-off, or you can enjoy flat water in legendary spots like the Guriú River or Tatajuba Lagoon.
Jeri has a great setup for kitesurfing, with loads of schools, shops, and places to get your kites and boards repaired.
It also hosts several kitesurfing events and competitions, bringing in pros and amateurs alike. These events really help create a lively kitesurfing community in the area.
Whether you're an experienced kiter or a beginner looking to try this exciting sport, Jericoacoara offers an amazing setting to enjoy kitesurfing to the fullest.
Other Fun Stuff to Do
Whether you want to extend your trip or your travel buddy isn't into kitesurfing, Northeast Brazil offers tons of other activities. It's already a popular tourist destination that attracts thousands of people every year.
Buggy rides along endless beaches, dune walks, or visits to stunning lagoons are just some of the activities you can do to complement your kitesurfing sessions.
In the bigger towns, you can shop for clothes and accessories from Brazilian brands – you'll definitely love checking them out.
And in the evenings, you can enjoy incredible sunsets while having some grilled fish (peixe a la brasa) and a caipirinha right on the beach.
Brazil has so much to offer, and we're here to help you discover it all.
