Mar Esmeralda is located at the northern tip of the island of Madagascar. The Indian Ocean trade winds are reinforced in this part of the ocean before reaching the African continent. Mar Esmeralda is a lagoon separated from the Indian Ocean by a natural barrier of islands and reefs. It is a secluded place only accessible by sea. Here you can enjoy gliding over a sea of infinite green glass on a white sandy bottom. Just over 2 nautical miles away, you can enjoy impeccable surfing with good-sized, high-quality reef waves.
In short, it is a privileged place to practice kitesurfing at any level, whether you are a beginner, freestyle or surf kite. All this in a privileged natural environment surrounded by exceptional flora and fauna.
In addition, there is the possibility of taking excursions to nearby islands and natural parks.
Stable winds
Constant and reliable wind. Thanks to the well-known Varatraza, a steady wind that blows from April to November, conditions allow you to sail and make the most of every day on the water. Its stability makes it the perfect ally for enjoying long sessions and progressing safely.
This setting is ideal for beginner riders who want to spend more time in the water, improve their control, and gain confidence. Advanced riders find days with the necessary power to work on jumps, speed, and more technical maneuvers.
The combination of consistent wind, warm weather, and protected waters make Emerald Sea a reliable and accessible spot.
Favorable climate
The climate in the Emerald Sea is warm and stable for most of the year, allowing you to enjoy the beach and the water every day. The days are usually sunny, with little variation in temperature and no sudden changes, creating a comfortable environment both in and out of the sea. This climate facilitates active routines, long sessions, and a consistent experience, ideal for group kitesurfing trips.
The water temperature remains warm and pleasant, allowing you to sail without a thick wetsuit or, in many cases, without a wetsuit at all. This provides comfort, freedom of movement, and less physical exertion during sessions.
Stunning beaches
Its beaches look like something out of a postcard: endless stretches ofwhite sand, shallow turquoise waters, and a virtually untouched horizon.
One of the great advantages of these beaches is that they are not crowded. There are no dozens of kites in the water. Sailing on the Emerald Sea means doing so with space and tranquility, surrounded only by wild nature and landscapes. This allows you to enjoy kitesurfing with a feeling of exclusivity that is difficult to find in other destinations.
An exceptional culture
Traveling to Madagascar to kitesurf is much more than just searching for perfect wind and turquoise waters.
The local population belongs mainly to the Antankarana ethnic group, a people deeply connected to the sea and traditional fishing. Their villages, made up of simple wooden and palm leaf constructions, reflect a peaceful lifestyle marked by respect for nature and ancestral traditions. Here, time is measured differently, without haste and with a hospitality that can be felt from the very first day.

Madagascar has become one of the most attractive destinations for kitesurfing thanks to the variety and quality of its spots. From large flat water lagoons to bays with wave zones, the country offers options for different levels and styles of sailing, always in unspoiled natural environments with plenty of space to enjoy kitesurfing without crowds.
The Emerald Sea is Madagascar's most iconic spot and one of Africa's top kitesurfing destinations. It is a huge lagoon with shallow waters, protected by coral reefs, creating a spacious, safe, and very comfortable environment for sailing. There is a real sense of space, even when sailing in a group, allowing for relaxed and well-organized sessions.
It is a very versatile spot, especially suitable for intermediate riders, although it is also attractive for beginners who are progressing and advanced riders. The possibility of walking out into the sea, together with the mostly flat water, facilitates learning and technical improvement. All this in a practically unspoiled natural environment, without overcrowding and with spectacular landscapes.
Sakalava Bay is one of Madagascar's best-known spots internationally and a classic among kiters visiting the north of the island. Its main attraction is the combination of different sailing areas in one place, allowing you to adapt your session to your level and the conditions on the day.
The inner part of the bay offers more sheltered areas with relatively calm waters, while the outer part has waves that attract intermediate and advanced riders interested in wave riding. It is a dynamic spot, ideal for those who want variety and to progress in different styles without changing location.
Babaomby is a lesser-known and much wilder spot, also located in northern Madagascar. Its main appeal is its tranquility: few riders, unspoiled nature, and a constant feeling of surfing in a remote and authentic place. It is a perfect option for those looking to get away from the more crowded spots.
Due to its characteristics, it is more suited to riders with some experience, as the conditions can be somewhat more technical than in the large protected lagoons. In return, it offers very clean sessions and a purer kitesurfing experience, where the environment and calm play a leading role.
If you want to take a break from kitesurfing or are traveling with someone who doesn't kitesurf, there are many other exciting activities to enjoy. You can explore the incredible underwater world by diving or snorkeling in the coral reefs of the Red Sea. You can also embark on desert excursions, visit ancient archaeological sites, or immerse yourself in Egypt's rich history.
We offer extensions to Luxor and Cairo.
Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, is the country's most important city and the main point of entry for most travelers. Chaotic, intense, and very authentic, it offers a first immersion into Malagasy culture. Here you can visit lively local markets, historic neighborhoods in the hills, colonial heritage buildings, and the former Queen's Palace, which offers panoramic views of the city.
While kitesurfing is exciting, for many travelers, one of the biggest attractions is simply disconnecting. Reading, strolling along the beach, enjoying the silence, or spending time with the group after the sessions are all part of the experience.
You can also enjoy boat trips and snorkel in its warm waters.
