Why go kitesurfing in Cape Verde?

Cape Verde is an archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa, and is known for its natural beauty, exotic beaches, interesting culture, and pleasant climate throughout the year.

From Spain, Cape Verde is a popular destination due to its relative proximity and easy access via flights from several Spanish cities and direct flights from Lisbon.

Sal Island is famous for its constant trade winds, which provide ideal conditions for kitesurfing, especially between December and May.

Warm water

You can surf in a short wetsuit or lycra.

Kite Beach

Located on the east coast of Sal Island, Kite Beach is one of the most popular spots for surfing. It offers a wide beach with perfect conditions for intermediate and expert riders. Keep in mind that this is a place with waves, which, although easy, are not ideal for beginners.

Ponta Petra

This spot is internationally renowned for its powerful waves. It is only suitable for the most advanced riders, as its tubular waves reach enormous sizes on days with high swells, reaching heights of 3 to 6 meters.

Santa María Beach

This area has a wide range of hotels, the water is calmer, and the waves are smaller, but the wind is too gusty as it is side-offshore, so it is not the perfect place for beginners. If you are staying at a hotel in Santa Maria, you can return by riding downwind from Kite Beach. At the western tip, there is a high-quality wave break called Ponta Sino.
